Far Eastern PGO (Khabarovsk, a subsidiary of the state holding RosGeo) in the new field season opens the third, final, stage of the exploration at Lakh site. The promising coal site of 240 km 2 is located on the territory of three administrative districts in the northern part of Sakhalin region: Okha, Noglik and Aleksandrovsk-Sakhalin. The works here are performed under a three-year public contract and will be completed by the end of this year.

During the new field season the company specialists will examine the structural features of Lakh site, identify and assess its commercial coal-bearing potential, occurrence conditions, thickness and structure of the coal stratas, as well as the quality and technological properties of the coal. In addition, it is necessary to study the physical and chemical properties of coal in order to assess its suitability as a carbon-chemical raw material. The experts will complete the geological routes, excavate the ditches, survey the surface geophysics and drilling of search wells with the associated set of activities (GIS, topographic geodetic and trial surveys).

This will result in localization, assessment and estimation of the forecast resources of coal in categories P 1 and P 2 with identification of sites for open development, geological and economic estimation (GEE) of the Lakh site by generalized indicators. In addition, the experts will identify the areas promising for performance of assessment and elaborate the recommendations for further geologic exploration.

Lakh coal-bearing area is the first in the history of the development of the north of Sakhalin, its resource potential is estimated at 1 billion. tons of energy coal.
