Sergey Gorkov, Director General, the Chairman of the Board of Rosgeo, Alexander Kozlov, Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, Konstantin Noskov, Minister of the Russian Federation for the Digital Development, Communication and Mass Media, and Nikita Anisimov, Rector of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) have signed an Agreement of Cooperation for implementing the project of FEFU-based Digital Development Center.

For the implementation of the Agreement, Rosgeo announced the opening of the FEFU-based "Digital Geology" laboratory, which would be one the largest projects to be based on the Digital Development Center on the Russky Island.

In the medium-term, Rosgeo plans to invest to the Digital Geology programme up to 1 bln Rubles of their own resources.

"Today's event reflects our commitment to introduce advanced technologies for geological studies and reproduction of the mineral resource base of Russia," — Sergey Gorkov. "The laboratory is a part of the ambitious "Digital Geology" programme – the innovative digital program for improving the efficiency of geological explorations through the comprehensive automation of functions, including the big data acquisition, transmission, processing and analysis, the use of cross-cutting digital technologies, and the implementation of smart management systems for mineral exploration processes."

The focus of the Rosgeo laboratory on the Russky Island is to develop an integrated line of algorithms and software solutions for processing and analysis of big geological data, including generation of high-precision predictive models based on the artificial intellect technologies.

A distributed digital storage being created by Rosgeo for the big geological data obtained through geological and geophysical operations on the mainland, shelf and in the World Ocean will be used in the software solutions developed. These data include findings of seismic and acoustic measurements, gas and geochemical sampling, gravimetric and magnetometer surveys, electromagnetic explorations, and their interpretation.

One of the laboratory's objectives will be to create distributed computation methodology, which enables to use distributed hardware facilities for complicated computations during geological explorations and to generate multidimensional models of explored mineral deposits.

The use of new innovative products will raise the Rosgeo efficiency through the significant reduction of operating costs and time for geological exploration, and multiple reduction of time required for geological data processing.

Background:

The Digital Development Center is created as part of a commission from the President of the Russian Federation as of October 10, 2018, related to the creation of Digital Development Center on the Russky Island for the development of big data processing software and information security.

The purpose of the digital development center is to form a Russian Far Eastern cluster of the science and information technologies ecosystem on the Russky Island. It will enable to consolidate the competence and skills in the field of promising technologies for big data processing, information security, cross-cutting digital technologies, industry 4.0.

Rosgeo is a Russian multi-industry geological holding company, which offers a full range of geological exploration services: from regional surveys to stratigraphic drilling and subsoil monitoring. The holding company boasts a unique expertise, particularly in marine geology and shelf operations. A total of more than 1,000 fields and deposits have been discovered by the holding’s companies, including major hydrocarbon and solid mineral deposits and fields. Rosgeo is a fully state-owned company
