Today, within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, RosGeo held a panel session "Digital management of underground deposits" devoted to more effective application of the achievements of the digital economy for systemic transformation of the mineral and raw material base development process.

Sergey Gorkov, Director General, Chairman of the Board of RosGeo was the moderator of the session. The event was attended by Dmitry Kobylkin, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, Pavel Grachev, Director General of PJSC "Polus", Natalya Kasperskaya, President of InfoWatch Group, Alexander Sergeyev, co-founder of "Kaspersky Lab", President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Artem Karapetov, Vice-President for business development of Schlumbergerб Hemant Kanoriya, Chairman of Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited, Vladimir Litvinenko, rector of St. Petersburg Mining University, Alexey Vashkevich, head of the Directorate for geological exploration and development of the resource base of Gazprom Neft, Pavel Sorokin, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation.

The speakers exchanged their views on the prospects of digital transformation in exploration and mining industries.

A. Vashkevich and P. Grachev spoke of the experience of digitization accumulated in their companies, K.Kanoria - about the world practice and interest to digital transformation abroad, N. Kasperskaya – on the prospects for application of neural networks in digitization of geological exploration and mining industry, as well as on the need in application of Russian developments with understandable algorithms to obtain a predictable result.

“The opportunity to process the large volumes of data at faster speeds puts on the agenda the issues that previously have not been considered, - A. Sergeev said. - The faster computers, new data processing methods, productive models allow to optimize the processes of forecasting and search for minerals."
“The separation between the digital and physical worlds practically ceased to exist, - A. Karapetov agreed. - we have established in Russia a research center engaged, inter alia, in development of digital technologies. We perform the research and development in the areas associated with machine learning, automation of geological survey and exploration data interpretation processes, elaboration of virtual measurements in the wells with digital core samples. We can say that we are already in the industry 4.0."
“The digitization is very easy to enter, it is much more difficult to implement everything competently, - expressed his opinion A.Vashkevich. The digitization in management of underground deposits is not a model of survival, like in banking or retail, this is a model of opportunities. We use digitalization in a focused way, where it can really help us."
“I think there was a very productive discussion today on technologies that will be an important element in the expansion and improvement of the economic efficiency of all links in the production chain of management of underground deposits. Russia occupies a leading position in the world in terms of digital technologies, - S. Gorkov said. - And we can become one of the leaders in the field of digitization of management of underground deposits. The stock of deposits developed thanks to discovery of large mineral deposits last century is coming to the end. There appears a shortage of mineral resources. This issue can be resolved by taking the advantage of the opportunities provided by the industry digitization. We are now developing a new strategy and digital technologies will be a significant part of it. In particular, we will establish a high-tech cluster of promising geological studies RosGeoLab.

RosGeo is a Russian multi-disciplinary geological holding that carries out a full range of services related to geological exploration: from regional surveys to parametric drilling and monitoring of subsoil conditions. The holding company boasts a unique expertise, particularly in marine geology and shelf operations.

RosGeo was established following the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of July 15, 2011, No. 957 on the basis of Tsentrgeologiya, an oldest Russian geological enterprise. Rosgeo is a fully state-owned company.

The enterprises within the Holding company operate in all eight Federal Districts of Russia. A total of more than 1000 fields and deposits have been discovered by the holding’s companies, including major hydrocarbon and solid mineral deposits and fields.
