Moscow, January 15, 2020. Central Geophysical Expedition JSC (CGE JSC, a subsidiary of Rosgeo) has tested and implemented an IT stack, which provides remote access to the HW/SW geophysical data processing platform based on the SaaS model (as a service) for employees of the Rosgeo's subsidiaries. The pilot project is implemented as part of the digitalization strategy and makes it possible to create interregional groups of remote users to address the challenges and projects, as well as to involve the key competencies of Rosgeo.

"The cloud IT-platform for geophysical data processing developed by the CGE engineering team together with Rosgeo experts gives access to the integrated hardware and software packages and saves resources, including the financial ones," — underlined Sergey Kirillov, Dr.Tech.Sc., Executive Director of CGE. "The Holding subsidiaries will not be required to create fixed data processing centers or to buy supplementary software. This approach to the IT-resource operation is unique for the Russian geological exploration market."

Within the pilot project, the employees of Irkutsk Geophysical Department (IGD, a separate structural department of Rosgeo) gained access to the Paradigm Company's SW products. They processed (calculated) a geological and geophysical project. It provided an opportunity to test all the features of remote offline data processing using the 3D visualization tools based on the SaaS model.

The access to the software stack for the Rosgeo's employees is based on the logic of virtual desktops. All the IT infrastructure is situated in Moscow within the CGE's single seismic data processing center, whereas the workspaces based on the thin client solution have been configured for accessing virtual desktops on the IGD site. The infrastructure of this decision was realized using the VDI technology and "heavy" 3D graphics. Within the framework of the pilot operation, the IGD employees quickly processed data acquired during the 3D CMP seismic survey covering 50 sq. km.

Employees of a Rosgeo's subsidiary, Krasnodarneftegeophysica JSC, have been currently engaged in testing the platform.

Background:

The idea of this project was submitted in summer 2019 at the digital geology development section as part of the "Leaders of changes" corporate project. CGE's geophysicist and IT specialists took the initiative of creating a corporate cloud and providing a broad range of technological features for the implementation of geological and geophysical projects.

Currently, the available processes are being improved, project administration policies are being developed, as well as legal, technical, and economic aspects of the connection and use of computer equipment and software are being considered.

The joint efforts of interregional project teams will improve business processes within the Holding. The CGE experts promptly connect to projects of the Holding subsidiaries, provide support and advice at all seismic data processing stages.
